I wouldn't call myself a "die-hard sports fan", but I feel that I have a good baseline understanding of Texas sports. One thing that always surprises me is hearing about a team that I am positive is fake, but it is indeed a real Texas professional team.

Don't be like me. Don't act the fool in front of hardcore sports fans. Those conversations can only end like me in high school: awkward and ugly.

Depending on who you ask, Texas is within the top four states with the most professional sports teams: 12. California actually contains the most at 15 (18 including WNBA and soccer).

This list takes into account the Big 4 sports leagues in the U.S.: NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL. I'll be nice and mention the WNBA and MLS, free of charge.

The Dallas Wings, debuting in 1998, is Texas' WNBA team that plays in the Western Conference of the WNBA and is majority owned by Bill Cameron.

One of Texas' MLS (soccer) teams founded in 1995 is FC Dallas . They are owned by the Hunt Sports Group and play in the Western Conference in the MLS. Texas also contains two other MLS teams: Houston Dynamo FC and Austin FC.
