Good news for those in Texas who are looking to download the TikTok app after it was removed from app stores in the US in January,

TIKTOK IS AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD ONCE AGAIN

Millions of Americans were lost when a ban on the social media platform TikTok went into effect on January 18, 2025.

They no longer had access to downloading the app from the App Store for Apple devices or Google Play store because of a ban that was issued by the US Congress and upheld by the Supreme Court of the United States.

Not only did they not have access to download the app, but the app itself went dark on January 18th. Users had no access to content, videos, influencers, and funny cat videos.

The TikTok dark period was short-lived

The site was restored to full functionality roughly 12 hours after being removed from the US market. While the site is now operating, new downloads of the app to devices were not available.

Those who have updated their phones and devices to newer technology are not able to download the app from the store leading them to keep their older device instead of trading it in so they could have access to the social media site.

While others who want the app for the first time are purchasing used devices from others that have the app already installed on them.

Nearly a month later TikTok is now back in app stores

As of February 13th, the app has been restored and is once again available to be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play store. According to Bloomberg (via The Verge), the US Attorney General, Pam Bondi sent a letter to Apple assuring the company that it wouldn't be fined for hosting the app once again.

While the app is once again available for download by users, the parent company, ByteDance, is still facing a legal battle and may have to sell the platform to a US company.
