5 Weird Items You’re Not Allowed to Mail in Texas
Most care packages are full of yummy snacks and first aid kits. However, not every package will pass through post office security, not even the ones packed with love.
USPS has very specific guidelines when mailing packages. There are obvious ones like nothing explosive but a few items on the banned from mailing list could be a surprise. If caught mailing these items, there could be some pretty serious consequences and hefty fines.
So, before you risk your package getting seized, here are five interesting items that are actually restricted, or straight-up illegal to mail.
1. Turtles
Just in case this needed to be stated, no you cannot mail a turtle through USPS. In fact, you cant mail other animals like snakes and poisonous reptiles either.
2. Motor Vehicle Master Keys
Not only are these expensive, they're also banned from mailing through USPS.
3. Alcohol
State and federal laws limit the shipment of liquor, wine, and beer through regular mail. Only licensed companies can ship alcohol.
4. Controlled Substances
Mailing illegal drugs, or even prescription meds without the right documentation, is a serious offense. Only authorized medical distributors can legally ship certain medications.
5. Toy Caps
Incredibly specific? Yes. Incredibly illegal to mail? Also yes.
Check before you mail.
Before you send anything questionable, double-check the official USPS restricted items list. The last thing you want is your package disappearing into postal limbo while you wonder where your snacks went. Or worse, receiving a hefty fine or even a court date.
