Texas Finally Ranks High for Something Fun
Texas has tanked in any number of surveys lately, but at last, we’ve got some good news.
I’ve been the bearer of bad news about the Lone Star State more times than I care to admit. Life isn’t always easy here, and some things—like our education system—need serious work, maybe even a complete overhaul.
But all that negativity sometimes makes you wonder: if it’s really that bad, why do we love living here so much? I think I just found one of the answers.
Wallethub reports that Texas has ranked 8th in the 2025 “Most Fun States in America” study. Yeehaw!
I knew there was a reason why I was enjoying myself—it’s because Texas is actually a fun place to be.
How Wallethub Measures “Fun”
The study measured “fun” by looking at two major categories: Entertainment & Recreation and Nightlife. Each of those included dozens of factors, like the number of restaurants per capita, access to national parks, and variety of activities.
Texas did well, ranking 7th in Entertainment & Recreation and 13th in Nightlife. Put those scores together, and suddenly we’re not just barbecue and tumbleweeds—we’re one of the most fun states in the country.

Texas Holds Its Own Against Other States When It Comes To Fun
Now, if you’re wondering who topped the list, you’ll have to head west—California took the #1 spot. And if you’re looking to have every ounce of fun sucked out of your life? That honor goes to West Virginia, dead last at #50.
So celebrate, Texas—you’ve earned it.
