The History of Cruise Night in Abilene
Cruise Night started in the early 1980s to help support Safety City and Rodney the Robot, an educational initiative led by the Abilene Police Department (APD). Decades later, APD continues its mission to promote street safety and drug awareness for kids across the Big Country.
A Night of Classic Cars & Generations United
One of the best things about Cruise Night is seeing families share stories about their favorite cars. Parents and grandparents relive memories, pointing out vehicles they once owned or admired.
At last year’s Fall Cruise Night, an APD officer reflected on his love for the event, saying, "I used to cruise in my classic car, and now I get to cruise Cruise Night in my police cruiser."
