Free Abilene Fall Festival Returns September 26 and 27
One of my favorite fall traditions in Abilene is coming back, and this is one event my wife and I truly enjoy attending together.

The annual Sacred Heart Catholic Church Fall Festival returns Saturday and Sunday, September 26 and 27, at 837 Jeanette Street in Abilene. Admission is absolutely free, and the entire community is invited.
Come Hungry to This Abilene Fall Festival
If you know me, you know food is going to get my attention, and Sacred Heart has never disappointed.
This year's festival will feature an authentic Mexican breakfast along with a variety of food booths throughout the weekend. There will also be live music, games, bingo, a huge silent auction, and plenty of opportunities to visit with friends and neighbors.
In years past, I've had the privilege of broadcasting live from the Sacred Heart Fall Festival. Once the broadcast was finished, I always enjoyed slowing down, strolling through the festival, and taking in everything that was going on.
These days, one of my favorite things to do is take my wife, Donna, after church and enjoy the festival together.
Although "together" might be stretching it a little.
Donna and I usually end up going in different directions when we get to the silent auction because there are so many interesting things to look at. We both like the faith-based jewelry and clothing, and somehow we've actually ended up bidding against each other.
The funny part? For the last two or three years, Donna has outbid me.
Good going, Donna.
She even came home as the winning bidder on a beautiful painting of The Last Supper that now hangs on our dining room wall. So yes, the Sacred Heart silent auction can get a little competitive at our house.
Don't Forget the Sacred Heart Raffle
Another big attraction every year is the Sacred Heart Fall Festival raffle, and this year's grand prize is a $5,000 gift card.
Raffle tickets are available after Masses and through the Sacred Heart Parish Office. You do not have to be present to win.
The church is also looking for volunteers to help make this year's festival another success. Donations are needed for the silent auction, bingo prizes, and drinks, including bottled water, Gatorade, and sodas.
A Fall Tradition That Helps Sacred Heart
The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, September 26, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, September 27.
This isn't just a fun weekend. The Fall Festival is an important annual fundraiser for Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and it takes a lot of volunteers and community support to make it happen.
I pray you'll come out, bring the family, enjoy some great food, and support Sacred Heart. Better yet, if you've got some time to give, consider volunteering.
Sometimes the best fall traditions are the ones that bring us together — even when my wife keeps outbidding me.
