Foo Fighters hooked up with veteran rocker Joan Jett last night (Nov. 15) on the ‘Late Show With David Letterman,’ tearing through a raucous version of the title track from the rock goddess’ 1989 solo debut album, ‘Bad Reputation.’

The appearance was an encore of sorts, as Jett was a surprise guest at the Fighters’ Sunday night concert at New York’s famed Madison Square Garden, also joining the Foos there for ‘Reputation.’

The ‘Letterman’ performance itself was a fairly straightforward run-through of the tune, but with the band injecting a little of their trademark Foos energy into the jaunty, punkish ditty. Grohl himself took over lead vocal duties about halfway through, then edged next to Jett as the two both shredded quick solos.

This isn’t the first time Grohl and the band linked up with Letterman during promotions for their latest album, ‘Wasting Light.’ In April, they rocked the Ed Sullivan Theater as part of the ‘Live on Letterman’ concert series, busting out the album in its entirety at that time.

The Madison Square Garden gig was one of the last stops on Foo Fighters’ fall 2011 North American tour in support of ‘Wasting Light.’ The trek kicked off Sept. 14 in St. Paul, Minn., and winds down tonight (Nov. 16)  in Boston.
