Last week, Evanescence released their self-titled third studio album and now it lands at No. 1 on the latest Billboard 200 chart by selling 127,000 copies in its first week of release. Evanescence bumped out ‘American Idol’ winner Scotty McCreery’s debut disc ‘Clear as Day’ from the top spot.

The band’s 2006 release ‘The Open Door’ also topped the Billboard 200 chart five years ago, moving 447,000 units in its first week. The new disc, ‘Evanescence’ earned a stellar review right here at Loudwire.

Evanescence aren’t the only rock group topping the charts. Five Finger Death Punch earn their best week on the Billboard 200, as their new album ‘American Capitalist’ debuts at debuts at No. 3, selling 91,000 copies. Their 2009 release ‘War Is the Answer’ took the No. 7 spot.

Evanescence and Five Finger Death Punch beat out pop and country acts such as Lauren Alaina, David Cook and Tony Bennett among many others.
