The Dallas Cowboys lost more than just a game to the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round of the playoffs. It has been confirmed that running back Tony Pollard did in fact break his leg during the game.

According to ESPN and several other news outlets, Tony Pollard suffered a broken left fibula and high ankle sprain with less than 2 minutes left in the first half of the game. The injury will require surgery.

Pollard was in obvious pain after the play. But, Cowboys fans were hopeful that it was just an ankle sprain of some kind and would return. However, Pollard was ruled out of the game after having some x-rays on the leg.

The video of Pollard breaking his leg may be hard to watch for some. I know it was for me.

The injury turned out to be a dagger for the Cowboys who couldn't match the speed of the 49er's defense. The Cowboys then turned to Ezekiel Elliott who couldn't gain more than a few yards a carry. In fact, Zeke only had 10 carries for 26 yards.

What was set up for an auspicious year ended in dramatic fashion as not only the Cowboys lost their 2nd straight divisional round playoff game, they lost a pro-bowl running back who carried most of the load for the Cowboys during the second half of the season.

The injury is super bad timing for Pollard who will become an unrestricted free agent in March.

Hopefully, Pollard has an excellent rehab and we see him wearing the star once again. Until then, it's that time to say it: "there's always next year". (I'm so tired of saying that)

Hey, at least that dude Post Malone doesn't have to worry about getting the number 88 tattooed on his forehead.
