2016 Emmy Award Nominees: The Biggest Surprises and Worst Disappointments
Boy, that was quick. 2016 Emmy nominees were announced this morning, and special presenters Lauren Graham and (a very excitable) Anthony Anderson wasted no time in revealing this year’s crop of nominees. While there was rightfully plenty of love to go around for dramas like The People v. O.J. Simpson and Mr. Robot, and comedy faves Veep and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, there were a few disappointments — namely, where the hell is UnREAL?! Or The Leftovers? Come on, Emmys.
‘Rules Don’t Apply’ Trailer: Young Han Solo Hangs Out With Warren Beatty’s Howard Hughes
It’s been a long time since we had a new Warren Beatty movie, but the actor and director has returned with Rules Don’t Apply, the long-developing passion project in which he plays the iconic Howard Hughes. The first trailer has finally arrived for the upcoming film, which co-stars the impossibly charming Alden Ehrenreich (your new Han Solo) in what surprisingly looks like a delightful little rom-com.
‘Sing’ Trailer: More Animated Talking Animals, This Time With Singing
This is a big year for animated movies featuring talking animals: Zootopia, Finding Dory, The Secret Life of Pets and now, Sing. But what sets the latest adventure apart from its animated brethren is right there in the title, and you can get a taste of what’s in store this Christmas thanks to a new extended trailer, featuring the voices of Matthew McConaughey and a whole bunch of other people you really like.
‘Kubo and the Two Strings’ Gets One More Magical Trailer
This summer hasn’t been a great one for movies (we even have actual data to back that up), and even if the rest of this month turns out to be as disappointing as June, we still have August to look forward to — and Kubo and the Two Strings, Laika’s latest stop-motion animation adventure, which looks like the studio’s most epic and visually stunning project yet. Even though the previous trailer was said to be the last we’d see before the film’s release, Laika has delivered one more sneak peek to tide you over until August.
‘Captain America: Civil War’ Blu-ray Release Date and Special Features Revealed
Captain America: Civil War is officially the highest-grossing film of 2016 (domestically) with over $400 million at the box office — which means you’re probably pretty excited about owning Marvel’s latest superhero epic when it comes to DVD and Blu-ray; which also means that this bit of news is of particular interest to you. Disney has set an official Blu-ray release date for Civil War, and if you’re curious about the special features, they’ve revealed those, too.
‘Kong: Skull Island’ Has the Biggest Version of King Kong Yet
King Kong is set to fight Godzilla again in 2020, but the iconic ape’s size puts him at a bit of an unfair disadvantage, and ultimately makes this battle of the beasts seem a little…pointless. Thankfully, it seems that Warner Bros. and Legendary are aware of this particular issue, as it was recently revealed that Kong has undergone a fairly sizable growth spurt for Skull Island, which will give us the biggest version of the classic movie monster yet.
‘Keeping Up With the Joneses’ Trailer: Zach Galifianakis Spies on Super Spy Jon Hamm
The first trailer for Keeping Up With the Joneses hits some predictable comedic beats, but with a cast that includes Zach Galifianakis, Jon Hamm, Isla Fisher and Gal Gadot, how can this one not go on your must-see list? Directed by Greg Mottola (Superbad), the new action comedy pits one of the world’s funniest men against one of the handsomest in a film that looks like a throwback to stuff like Stakeout — remember Stakeout? You had cable in the ’90s, right?
‘Star Trek’ Actor Anton Yelchin Dies in Tragic Accident at the Age of 27
Anton Yelchin, the young actor best known for recent roles in the Star Trek franchise and acclaimed indie thriller Green Room has tragically passed away at the age of 27. Yelchin’s death was originally discovered early Sunday morning and initially reported by TMZ. Several outlets are confirming this terrible news, which comes just one month ahead of the release of Star Trek Beyond, in which he reprises the role of Chekov.
New ‘Ghostbusters’ Troll Their Haters With a ‘Folk Lady’ Version of the Classic Theme Song
The cast of Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters are set to appear on The Graham Norton Show on June 23, but a couple of clips from their delightful episode have popped up online, including one in which Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy — at Feig’s urging — perform their “folk lady” version of the classic theme song. As an added bonus, their sharply-dressed director gets slimed, straight-up Nickelodeon style.

‘Denial’ Trailer: Rachel Weisz Will See You in Court
And in other World War II-related movie news, here’s the first trailer for Denial, another new drama based on true events, this time a bit more recent. Rachel Weisz stars as Deborah E. Lipstadt, an author who becomes the subject of a lawsuit when she publicly slams a Holocaust denier. In an absurd and sadly familiar turn of events, Lipstadt is forced to prove the existence of the Holocaust in a court of law. If nothing else, Weisz looks to be giving one hell of a performance.
‘Anthropoid’ Trailer: Jamie Dornan and Cillian Murphy Plot an Assassination
Cillian Murphy has not one, but two World War II films on the horizon: Dunkirk, which reunites him with Inception director Christopher Nolan, and Anthropoid, an assassination thriller co-starring Jamie Dornan. The trailer for the latter has arrived, giving us our first official look at the duo as they plot to kill a high-ranking S.S. officer — and yes, obviously it’s based on a true story.
