I've had iPhones before. I've even had a Samsung before. I never had the Samsung phone long enough to get to the point of the phone slowing down, but it definitely happened with every iPhone I owned. The phone would always seem to slow down and the battery would die quickly after about a year.

Well, this isn't all in our head. They actually are slowing down the phones. A ruling over in Italy, believed to be the first of its kind, claims that Apple and Samsung are intentionally slowing down phones with updates to encourage the purchasing of new phones.

It's all starting to make sense now. We have someone we work with who is using an iPhone that's at least 3 years old, but he has no problems with the battery or speed because he doesn't do the iOS updates.

Last December, Apple admitted it was slowing down older phones with degraded batteries, to prevent random shut downs. They also denied that the intent was shorten the life of the product.

Well, in Italy, they think otherwise. France another case currently going on, making the same claims. And in France, it is illegal to shorten the life of a product in order to promote sales.

There is currently a lawsuit happening in the US. More than 60 separate claims were ordered to be consolidated into a single suit in Northern California.
