The Facebook group I Love Texas shared a TikTok video posted by Geo View that highlighted the top 10 boring towns in Texas. That list puts the Story Book Capital of the World, Abilene, right in the middle of the pack, coming in at number 5 on the list.

I don't think anyone can argue that Odessa is probably the right choice when it comes to boring cities in the Lone Star State. If you've ever just driven through that city, you'll know what I mean.

Keep Abilene Boring

Many years ago, Monk's Coffee Shop infamously created t-shirts that read "Keep Abilene Boring". They rereleased those shirts with a slightly different logo back during the pandemic as a way to raise money for COVID-19 relief efforts. The slogan has stuck with Abilene locals over the years.

Is Abilene Really That Boring?

I think it's all about perception and age when it comes to categorizing Abilene as a boring town. When I was single and ready to mingle, I thought Abilene was the most boring place to be in. I mean, we have three colleges, why are we not hopping?

As I've gotten older, I have come to realize that Abilene is not really that boring. Sure, we're not the Vegas strip, and things tend to move a bit slower here, but there is genuinely something to do for anyone, no matter what age you are.

Abilene's Getting Better

The revitalization of downtown Abilene with several new businesses, a stunning hotel, and road construction is improving the look and vibe of the Key City. One Facebook group called "Abilene: It's Getting Better" highlights many of these new businesses and the hard work that is being put into making Abilene a lot less boring. Have you seen the SODA district and the rest of downtown lately?

So while many think of Abilene as one of the most boring towns in Texas, I think our little old town in Texas is pretty cool...and getting better.
