6 Of The Best Wine Types To Enjoy
As I was browsing through the calendar, I came across a day that I didn't know existed. I should have known that it did. It seems like everything has its own day nowadays. May 25th is National Wine Day. Yep, a day all about wine. Hallelujah. Especially with the hot weather outside, I'm so excited about a delicious, perfectly chilled glass of sweet red. Reds are just the tip of the iceberg, below are some of the most popular types of wine to get you ready for National Wine Day.
MOST POPULAR WINE TYPES
Cabernet Sauvignon is in the red wine family. Full-bodied. It's one of the most popular types of wine in the world. Your taste buds will detect flavors of black cherry and blackcurrant. I enjoy this wine with a good steak. Browse some good ones here.
Merlots are similar to Cabernet Sauvignon in that it has a flavor all their own. It's not as full-bodied and has a medium weight. Merlots contain flavors that you wouldn't think would go well together, but oh do they. You'll sense tones of red fruit, eucalyptus, mint, and juniper. I like to pair this wine with beef, nuts, and even some desserts. Check out these great bottles.
This red wine is mid-bodied with its own presence. For me, I could taste tones of cherry and cranberry, rose, beet, and rhubarb. When it comes to pairing with food, be sure to include chicken (like I did) and I hear duck goes well with it too. Be sure to include these next time you're in the mood.
These are medium to light-bodied, dry white wines. It's a very popular wine in my circle of friends. If you like lemon, pear, cinnamon, butterscotch, and caramel, this is the wine for you. There's a tart taste with just a hint of sweetness. I have to always have Chardonnays with seafood, particularly lobster. Delicious. Check out some great bottles here.
When I tasted this wine for the first time, it was a love-hate for me. A white wine with a lighter body that is sweet and dry. The taste of this wine is mostly made up of citrus, but also has hints of flowers and herbs. I served it with pork chops and I've also read that it goes well with fondue. Sauvignon Blanc is a light to medium-bodied dry, white wine. The flavor that stands out to me the most is that of citrus, in particular grapefruit. I like this wine with fish or chicken. Try one of these at your next meal.
Now that you know the most popular kinds of wine out there, the question begs to be asked, wherein Abilene is the best place to have a glass? I'm on the quest to find out the answer to that very question and will certainly report back.
