I don't know how CBS plans on getting this done, but I'll be the first to see it. The Stand (which was a six hour miniseries) will be boiled down to a hot 90 minutes for the big screen according to The Hollywood Reporter. Check it out the deets after the jump.

The Stand is a story of good vs. evil after a virus wipes out most of the American population. While it features dozens of characters (such as the Trashcan Man and Mother Abigail) and overlapping story lines running over many years, the struggle boils down to a group of survivors fighting the Antichrist-like Randall Flagg.

So in the wrong hands it may be a convoluted mess, in the right hands it could rock. I just wasn't real happy with the mini-series (it was okay, but nowhere even close to as good as it should have been). I can also recommend the comics.

Check out the opening sequence (which was great).

And here's a cool little tribute to the bad guy Randall Flagg
