The Smashing Pumpkins have released a music video for their track “Drum + Fife,” a song off their latest album, Monuments to an Elegy. The somber 4-minute clip shows a group of children playing a pretend war game with slingshots and stones, which is interrupted by real danger, gunfire and explosions. Watch the video above.

In a press release, frontman Billy Corgan had this to say about the visual, "I asked, albeit in an allegorical way, for the video to represent what our returning soldiers are going through with PTSD, and I feel that the directors captured that with poignancy. I couldn't be more proud of the message we're sending that we care what happens to those that are out there hurting."

In addition to the new clip, the Smashing Pumpkins will be performing on your TV a couple of times this week. On Thursday (April 2), they’ll perform “Drum + Fife” on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon with Rage Against the Machine’s Brad Wilk on drums and the Killer’s bassist Mark Stoermer. On Friday (April 3), they’ll perform an acoustic version of the tune on Good Morning America.

You should make sure to check out the band’s TV performances, as just last week Corgan stated that the future of the Smashing Pumpkins “is kind of murky.” He told a radio station in Peru that he is only committed to the idea of the Smashing Pumpkins through the end of this year.
