‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay’ Will Be Directed by Francis Lawrence
It looks like we're getting a jump on that 'Hunger Games: Mockingjay' news before 'Catching Fire' has even been completed. Director Francis Lawrence, who is currently hard at work on the second entry, has just been hired to helm 'Mockingjay.'
We don't get a break from 'Hunger Games' news, and Francis Lawrence doesn't get a break from directing, as Collider reports. It seems Lionsgate is quite pleased with the director's work on 'Catching Fire' -- so much so that they've decided to hire him for 'Mockingjay,' the two-part finale to 'The Hunger Games' saga. As has been reported previously, Gary Ross, who directed the first film, declined to return for the sequel due to time constraints, but Lawrence seems to be having an easier time adhering to the studio's schedule.
'Catching Fire' is currently filming with returning stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, and is set to debut on November 22, 2013. 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1' is set for a November 21, 2014 release, while 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2' is set to follow on November 20, 2015.
In 'Catching Fire,' Katniss and Peeta are on a victor's tour of the districts while President Snow prepares for the Quarter Quell -- the 75th annual Hunger Games tournament -- and it looks like Katniss and Peeta aren't done with their struggle for survival just yet. In 'Mockingjay,' Katniss has survived the Hunger Games twice, but now the Capitol is looking for someone on which they can take their revenge, and that someone is Katniss.
