The Empire Strikes at Sochi in This Funny Video

What makes watching the Sochi 2014 Winter Games even better? Seeing footage of AT-ATs from Star Wars intercut with all of the spills.

In this short, but hilarious video from Natholdet, we’re treated to almost half a minute of footage from the Sochi 2014 Winter Games. Since spills are inevitable at these kinds of events, why not take an embarrassing moment and make it more epic? With the intercut footage of computer-generated AT-ATs, it looks as though the Olympians are getting blasted on the planet Hoth.

No snowboarders or skiiers are safe from the might of the Empire as one by one, they are blasted to kingdom come by the gigantic AT-ATs. You might remember the AT-ATs from their first appearance in Star Wars: Episode 5 – The Empire Strikes Back. They were present on the frozen planet of Hoth and are huge, four-legged machines. These gigantic walkers’ name stood for All Terrain Armored Transport and they proved to be mighty foes until they were brought down with tow cables.

Unfortunately, no one at the Sochi 2014 Winter Games had access to such tow cables or any kind of flying vehicle that could maneuver around their legs, so instead we’re treated with this funny video. Watch the mayhem in the video above and wish the Olympians the best of luck in their endeavors. Let’s hope that was the last they’ve seen of the Empire and the carnage of the AT-ATs while in Sochi.
