‘The Crow’ Reboot is Going After ‘The Avengers’ Tom Hiddleston

It’s easy for an actor to get trapped in certain kinds of roles, and after two movies playing the traitorous Loki (and with a third film on the way), it’s nice to see that Tom Hiddleston has been offered the lead in ‘The Crow.’

As The Wrap is reporting, Hiddleston is in early negotiations to take on the part of Eric Draven, the musician who’s murdered only to return from the dead as an avenging angel named The Crow. Though the part is more anti-hero than hero, it’s a slight step away from his role as Loki in the ‘Thor‘ movies, and in last summer’s ‘The Avengers.’ He’s the third actor mentioned for the part as both Bradley Cooper and James McAvoy have previously flirted with playing the role.

Hiddleston has shown range previously to this in such films as Steven Spielberg‘s ‘War Horse’ and in the critically revered ‘The Deep Blue Sea,’ but audiences know him best for his work in ‘The Avengers,’ as that film made over a billion and a half dollars worldwide. If ‘The Crow’ reboot works, he should be able to shed the shackles of being a go-to actor for villiany, as typecasting is wont to do.

He would also make a stark contrast to Brandon Lee, who was tragically killed in an on-set accident while making the 1994 film, which also may have turned the movie into the cult hit it is today. The reboot is currently being helmed by F. Javier Gutierrez, and was written by Cliff Dorfman. Shooting is scheduled to commence this fall, so if Hiddleston boards the project, expect more casting news shortly.
