The Black Keys Working on New Album

The Black Keys are still on the road supporting their last album, ‘El Camino,’ but that hasn’t stopped the duo from beginning to throw around some ideas that could turn up on a follow-up to the 2011 full-length release. In fact, frontman Dan Auerbach and drummer Pat Carney already convened in their adopted hometown of Nashville to begin working on the disc.

“We spent a week in the studio,” Dan Auerbach told Rolling Stone, describing a recent Nashville session that took place between legs of the band’s first-ever arena tour. “[It wasn’t] the most focused studio session,” the frontman admitted, before adding that he and drummer Patrick Carney did “get some ideas down and started the ball rolling.”

That said, Auerbach has no idea what to expect from their next album. ”We don’t talk about it. We don’t plan it,” he explained. “We start recording, and then all of a sudden it starts to take shape and we have an idea … [it’s] sort of a spontaneous thing.”

Auerbach also wouldn’t speculate on a possible producer for the disc. ”Not sure who we’re gonna work with or if we’re going to [produce] it ourselves,” he said. “We haven’t planned it out yet.” The Keys have recorded their last three albums with producer Danger Mouse helming the sessions.
