The subject of work and financial equality of men and women will probably always be an issue, but I'm amazed that there are still such huge gaps between the two. On a State level how did Texas rank overall on women's equality? Not well.

The 19th Amendment to the Constitution gave women the right to vote and with that women began to fight for more and more rights and equality to their male counterparts. Admittedly we've come along way since 1920 but we still have far to go and that's what is so surprising. For all the fighting we do for women in other countries to gain independence, we, as a nation, didn't even make the Top 20 worldwide on the World Economic Forum’s list of the most gender equal countries. A woman in the U.S. makes 77 cents for every dollar a man makes.

As a state, Texas is near the bottom of the list. Recently WalletHub did a study of where each state fell on gender equality. The study took into account 10 key areas like pay, work hours, education, life expectancy and more.

The study showed that women are under represented in the work place with pay, executive positioning, political power and more. In fact Texas ranked 47th out of 50 states in these and other areas. That is unacceptable. If you can do the job it shouldn't matter your gender; and pay should be equal no matter what. Why should a man get paid more for doing the same job a woman is doing. They shouldn't.

This study is a major eye opener. We have to make some changes at the state and national levels. More and more women are entering the workforce everyday yet are not being compensated for their efforts. In this day and age this is unacceptable.
