This was a big week for football fans, with a lot of important action on the field. Once again, several teams made their case for why they should be #1, as LSU and Oklahoma won big over ranked opponents and Alabama pitched another shutout. Here are all the highlights from around the Top 25.

Oklahoma on Sunday became the first team ever to be ranked #1 in the AP football poll 100 times. The Sooners were ranked #1 for the first time in 1954, the second year of Oklahoma’s NCAA-record 47-game winning streak, which lasted from 1953-1957. They have spent at least one week in the top spot in 19 different seasons.

As you might expect this time of year, there are not a lot of marquee games and only one matchup between top 25 teams (#3 Alabama vs. #23 Penn State). But there are still a lot of intriguing matchups that will start to tell us who are contenders and who are pretenders ...

I firmly believe ALL sports of ALL levels of competition need cheerleaders.  Seriously, think about how much more fun golf would be if there were cheerleaders.  Every sport needs cheerleaders...and here are many reasons why!
