Ahead of their forthcoming barrage of three new albums known as ‘¡Uno!,’ ‘¡Dos!’ and ‘¡Tres!,’ Green Day will treat their especially dedicated uber-fans with the release of a box set featuring all eight of their previous full-length studio albums. Titled, appropriately, ‘The Studio Albums 1990-2009,’ the set will be available exclusively through Best Buy retailers on Sept. 4.
If you’re a Green Day fan, then the next several months are going to be good ones for you, as the band is flooding the marketplace with material. Not all of it is new, either. Ahead of the trio’s upcoming trilogy -’Green Day ¡Uno!’ (Sept. 25), ‘Green Day ¡Dos!’ (Nov. 13) and ‘Green Day ¡Tré!’ (Jan. 15)- the band is also planning a career-spanning, eight-CD box set, due Sept. 4.
Green Day have released a live video for the tune ‘Let Yourself Go’ that was recorded on Nov. 17 of last year at a venue called the Red 7 in Austin, Texas. It’s a track off the band’s upcoming album, ‘¡Uno!,’ which hits stores on Sept. 25 via Reprise and is the first release from a trilogy that includes ‘¡Dos!’ (out Nov. 13) and ‘¡Tres!’ (due Jan. 15).
Green Day are doing pretty well with their single, ‘Oh, Love,’ as evidenced by the fact that it became only the third song ever to debut atop the Billboard Rock Songs Chart, but it never hurts to have all the support you can get.
Green Day are one of the biggest bands in music in general, regardless of genre. They rose from the ranks of Northern California to Warped Tour perennials to eventually having a musical based on one of their albums (‘American Idiot’). They are about to release a trilogy of albums in the next few months. But it wasn’t always this rosy. Turns out the trio got paid a measly $100 to play Cleveland dive the Euclid Tavern back in 1992, two years before they exploded with ‘Dookie.’
”I didn’t know her, I just thought it was a real tragic loss,” Billie Joe Armstrong says of Amy Winehouse, who passed away a year ago this week at the tender age of 27. Armstrong’s band Green Day have a trio of albums coming out in the next year, and one of those discs features a tribute to Winehouse titled simply ‘Amy’ that also serves as a warning about the dangers of following the hard-living path she was known for following.
Last week, Green Day released ‘Oh Love,’ the first single off their forthcoming ‘Uno!’ album, and the song has already made a major impact at radio. In fact, ‘Oh Love’ becomes just the third song in the history of the Billboard Rock Songs chart to debut at No. 1 on the tally, racking up 13 million first-week audience impressions from 145 reporting stations in the process.
