‘Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith 3D’ Release Now Fending Off ‘Attack of the Clones 3D’

Lucasfilm

As we revealed back in August, 20th Century Fox altered its original distribution plan for the ‘Star Wars’ 3D re-releases — from dishing one out annually to giving them back-to-back releases — with ‘Attack of the Clones’ and ‘Revenge of the Sith’ separated by a mere handful of weeks in late 2013.

Well, that has changed once again, as the studio has moved ‘Sith’ up; now it opens only two weeks after ‘Attack of the Clones.’ Find out the exact dates after the break.

According to Box Office Mojo, ‘Star Wars: Attack of the Clones’ will keep its September 20, 2013 slot, while ‘Revenge of the Sith’ comes out on October 4, where it will find competition in the form of Robert Rodriguez‘s ‘Sin City: A Dame to Kill For’ and the Harrison Ford thriller ‘Paranoia.’

Upon the original announcement, we wondered what the reasoning could be behind releasing the 3D-converted prequels so close to one another. And, frankly, we’re still wondering. Is it simply cheaper for Fox to market two films at once as opposed to spending a new truckload of money each year, or is it an issue of momentum — allowing whatever excitement there is for ‘Attack of the Clones’ to carry over immediately to ‘Revenge of the Sith.’

Or is there something else at play that we’re not seeing? (Any possibility that ‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ factors in?) Give us your theories in the comments below.
