Seventh Grade Girl Kicked Off the Football Team Because ‘Boys Have Lustful Thoughts and Bad Language’

Strong Rock Christian Middle School in Georgia will be missing a Defensive Tackle from their football roster this fall after being kicked off the team. Not because of bad grades, or poor behavior, or even for lack of talent. The explanation for dismissing 12-year old Maddy Blythe is what has people up in arms.

Maddy’s mother, Cassy Blythe said that, while both Strong Rock’s football coach and principal support the seventh grader, the school’s CEO Patrick Stuart quoted the Bible while explaining just why girls and boys shouldn’t play on the same team. Mom explains:

“He said the boys are coming of age and starting to have impure thoughts and might lust after her. He said the locker room talk isn’t appropriate for her. And he said he’s been praying about it and came to the conclusion that he was making the right decision for the school.”

Here is the news report from WSBTV.com:

Not only can you “Like” Maddy’s “Let Her Play” Facebook page, There’s an online petition to sign and show support for Maddy.

I went to a private school from Kindergarten through 12th grade. One thing I grew to understand about private schools, it’s that they can create and enforce any rules they want. The general attitude with these schools is that nobody is forcing parents to send their kids to private school, so if you don’t like it, you’re welcome to leave.

Two things crack me up about this story. First, Maddy is being punished for the “lustful thoughts’ of her classmates. It seems that lustful thoughts and bad language are the problem, not a girl playing football. Also, I found it ridiculous that Maddy was informed she was kicked off the team when the school’s administrators are gone on summer vacation and unavailable for comment. Perfect timing, if you want to avoid the press and public outcry.

I honestly don’t think Maddy has a chance in this fight, but I think it’s awesome that she’s fighting anyway. Maddy just wants to play football, and whether the school is within its legal rights or not doesn’t change the fact that this 12-year old loves football, enjoys the competition and is pretty good from what I understand.
