Trent Reznor is looking ahead to a busy 2013, but before that he’s sharing a few thoughts on where it all started for him musically as part of the footage for Dave Grohl‘s ‘Sound City‘ documentary.

The Nine Inch Nails mastermind says in a video clip (posted below), “I remember playing the record player with my dad. It was Jimi Hendrix‘s ‘Are You Experienced?’ combined with Partridge Family, I think it was greatest hits, which is still a pretty good record, but, hey man. [chuckles]”

Reznor isn’t the only one speaking about his musical start, as Grohl has filmed clips with producer Rick Rubin, drummer Vinny Appice, Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen, REO Speedwagon‘s Kevin Cronin, the Pixies‘ Frank Black, as well as Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich and Rage Against the Machine drummer Brad Wilk.

Ulrich recalls seeing Deep Purple in 1973 in Copenhagen. “I remember Ritchie Blackmore standing there throwing his guitar like 30 feet in the air and playing it with his ass and feet and all that and it was pretty cool,” says the drummer. Meanwhile, Brad Wilk relates a story about being a kid and playing at the batting cages when Steve Miller Band‘s ‘Fly Like an Eagle’ came on as the first time music struck him.

A quick run through the film’s website shows a bunch of newly posted studio photos with Josh Homme, Krist Novoselic, Butch Vig and Tom Petty, among others.
