At Gamescom today, Hideo Kojima announced that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be heading to Steam, indicating a PC release of his anticipated title. Ahead of that announcement, Kotaku reported that the Konami's UK web team accidentally leaked the fact that the game and its prologue, Ground Zeroes, will be coming to Steam.

Konami's official site posted the story, shown below, a few hours early of its intended announcement at Gamescom. The story header is still on the site, but clicking on it links to an error page (where Konami shamefully screws up their own famous cheat code, also provided below). Steam has also officially listed The Phantom Pain on its website.

Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain will be the first Metal Gear Solid titles to appear on Valve’s PC digital distribution platform since Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance was ported, back in 2003. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeace was also ported to Steam earlier this year.

Hideo Kojima, creator of the Metal Gear series, hinted in March that Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain could end up on PC.

"PC, that's my original background. I originally created PC games," Kojima said. "A long time ago I didn't want to rely on platforms to release games, so if people want it, I cannot make a formal announcement, but that is definitely something that I would like to do."

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is expected in early 2015 on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PC, but no specific date has been announced.
