The Lostprophets story has been well chronicled as the UK rockers’ career came to an abrupt end when frontman Ian Watkins was shockingly arrested and eventually sentenced to 29 years in prison for a number of child sex crimes. From the moment it happened, the band’s career stopped, with the members dealing with emotions generated by Watkins’ horrific actions. Stuart Richardson states, “We didn’t know if we would ever make music again, or if people would look us in the face. Everything felt like it as over.”
But after coming to terms with Lostprophets being a part of their past, Lee Gaze, Luke Johnson, Mike Lewis, Jamie Oliver and Stuart Richardson began to plot their next step. The band approached Rickly with some instrumental music after learning they shared a common interest in the type of music they liked.
Rickly states, “To be honest, I never really listened to Lostprophets. But with this music, we speak a common language. You don’t really grow out of punk, you grow with it. To my mind, post-punk was about taking a more sophisticated approach to that sound and I think we have a shared respect for that era of modern music.”
The vocalist agreed to join the group, adding, “I didn’t think it was fair, what was happening to them. And well, the music was too good to pass up.”
The band is making their debut with a 12-inch single featuring the lead track ‘Stay.’ The song can be heard in the player above and it’s currently available via iTunes. The track will be backed by the song ‘Eyeshadow’ that will be available as a limited-edition 12-inch single that can be ordered through Collect Records on July 22.
The group will also take the stage for the first time with a mini-tour of the U.K. They’ll play four stops in Cardiff, Manchester, London and Glasgow between July 22-26.
