Lacuna Coil Bring Their ‘Dark Adrenaline’ to New York City
Italian metalers Lacuna Coil performed for a sold out crowd last night (May 9) during the New York City stop on their ‘Dark Legacy Tour’ at Gramercy Theater.
Lacuna Coil started off their explosive hour and a half long set with ‘I Don’t Believe in Tomorrow’ off of their new album ‘Dark Adrenaline.’ Other new tunes they performed included ‘Kill the Light,’ ‘Upsidedown,’ ‘Give Me Something More’ and the disc’s first single, ‘Trip the Darkness.’
They also performed older tracks such as ‘Heaven’s a Lie,’ ‘Senzafine’ and ‘Entwined’ among numerous others and this was only the first part of the show. After a ten minute intermission, co-singers Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro returned with guitarists Cristiano ‘Pizza’ Migliore and Marco ‘Maus’ Biazzi for the acoustic portion of the show.
Scabbia described this section of the show as “magical” and it was nothing short of that. Fans got the treat of hearing two talented vocalists and guitarists intertwine beautifully in an intimate setting as they performed an eclectic range of songs acoustically such as ‘Falling,’ ‘Closer,’ ‘Within Me,’ ‘End of Time’ and ‘Shallow Life.’
After another 10 minute break, the band unleashed onto the stage and got fans jumping with ‘Our Truth,’ where drummer Cristiano ‘Criz’ Mozzati and bassist Marco Coti Zelati remained consistent in their skillful playing and brought some thunderous grooves to the entire performance. The band also played ‘To Live Is To Hide,’ ‘1.19’ and ‘No Need to Explain’ among others.
They ended the show with a heartwarming performance of ‘My Spirit’ which they dedicated to metal’s recent fallen heroes such as Type O Negative’s Peter Steele, Ronnie James Dio, Jimmy ‘The Rev’ Sullivan and many, many more.
It’s no wonder why Lacuna Coil have been a strong constant, cohesive unit for 15 years, they continue to grow not only in the amount of fans they have but their passion and love for heavy music which will easily add another 15 years to their “dark” music legacy.
Lacuna Coil’s label mates Otherwise opened up the show with a set of songs from their album ‘True Love Never Dies,’ including the single ‘Soldiers’ and a partial cover of Rage Against the Machine’s ‘Killing in the Name’ that had some fans rocking out. With the band’s cocky stage presence, things heated up when the Las Vegas boys started to pick on what seemed like an uninterested concertgoer. After a few exchanged words between the barricade and stage at the beginning of the set, Otherwise called a truce at the end by giving the Lacuna Coil devotee a bottle of water and a hug.
So whether you want to be hugged by Otherwise or feel the magic of Lacuna Coil, you can take a look at the remaining dates of the ‘Dark Legacy Tour’ here.
