Jack White on White Stripes Reunion Prospects: There’s ‘Absolutely No Chance’

While in London on Tuesday (March 20) to promote his solo debut, ‘Blunderbuss,’ Jack White confirmed that he hasn’t put everything else on the shelf in order to strike out on his own. “I’m still in a couple of bands, so I’m not missing anything by doing this,” said White, presumably referring to the Raconteurs and the Dead Weather.

But as for White’s no-longer-together signature group, the singer/guitarist recently made it clear there’s “absolutely no chance” he’d ever join forces with drummer Meg White under the White Stripes banner.

“I couldn’t see any reason to ever do that,” White told NME. “I’m not the kind of person that would retire from baseball and come out of retirement the next year. I mean, if we went to all the trouble of telling people we’re done, we meant it, you know?”

In the same interview, White did add that severe financial problems might force him to reconsider his stance. “If for some reason we went bankrupt or something or needed the cash, which would be a really sad thing,” he said, “I would probably be issuing an apology along with the announcement of the show dates!”

White’s ‘Blunderbuss’ album is due April 24 on his own Third Man Records.
