Iron Maiden’s ‘Trooper’ Beer Halted in Sweden

Iron Maiden‘s ‘Trooper’ beer officially hit the shelves this week, but not all of the markets are on board with the promotion. Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reports that sales of the beer have been halted in Sweden due to concern of the beer’s label running afoul of the country’s alcohol requirements.

Therese Elmgren of Systembolaget told the paper, “There has been a discussion about the label. The alcohol law stipulates how it can look. We therefore don’t yet know when it can be launched.”

The “Eddie”-emblazoned packaging mirrors the look and artwork for the band’s 1983 single, ‘The Trooper.’

Even with the trouble in Sweden, ‘Trooper’ beer officially launched earlier this week during a special event at Robinsons Brewery in Cheshire, England.

Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson stated, “I’m a lifelong fan of traditional English ale; I thought I’d died and gone to heaven when we were asked to create our own beer. I have to say that I was very nervous: Robinsons are the only people I have had to audition for in 30 years. Their magic has been to create the alchemical wedding of flavor and texture that is ‘Trooper.’ I love it.” A photo of Dickinson pouring the first pint of ‘Trooper’ beer can be seen above.

The Trooper beer is currently available only in European countries and is stocked in Robinsons pubs. To see locations, click here.
