Here's how freedom of religion works. You're free to worship what you want, and the other guy is free to worship what he wants. There are estimated to be 33,000 variations of Christianity alone, so allowing for our differences is incredibly important.

Now, in order to allow a nativity scene at the Texas Capitol, the state has to allow people with other viewpoints to be included. Sounds fair, right? Well, the Freedom From Religion Foundation Foundation contributed a display and the governor had it taken down on the grounds that it "mocked Christianity."

The picture shows the founding fathers and the Statue of Liberty around the Bill of Rights on a footstool.

I think the governor is really pushing it here. I found the image to be rather patriotic and, if it wasn't Christmastime, I don't think people would even compare it to the nativity.

Instead, Governor Abbott has once again tried to thumb his nose at the law, which he hasn't been very successful at so far. He has also set up a lawsuit which you and I will have to fund, all over a cardboard display in the basement of the capitol.

That's right: NO ONE would have even heard of this until the Governor decided to make it an issue. Now, millions instead of dozens will be exposed to the image. Way to go, Governor.

Here is a picture of the display:
