Additional Information

Relay for Life is coming up April 25th so it's time to get your team together and start raising money for the American Cancer Society. This is an incredible event that I was a part of, for the first time, two years ago. I will, again, be making the 'survivor' lap this year. Relay for Life is an emotional evening for all of us. Whether you are a survivor, supporter, or just want to be a part of a great cause you will be affected by this walk.

The evening starts out with the survivor lap and then continues with team members walking laps until the next morning. I had a cousin that passed away a few years ago from colon cancer and I remember how she talked about the Relay for Life event in her area. She loved it and made so many friends. It's a great way to celebrate, remember and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow cancer survivors and caregivers.

I think my favorite part of the night is the Luminaria Ceremony. Tea light candles are placed inside of personalized bags to symbolize shining a light on the fight against cancer. It's very moving, as everyone in the stadium becomes silent and walks a lap and finds the bag of their loved one.
