Black Veil Brides Frontman: Our Next Album Is ‘Social Distortion Meets Metallica’

Black Veil Brides
Paul Harries

Punk rock has a rich history as a powerful grassroots genre which changed the state of rock music forever. Whether it be Iggy Pop and the legendary Stooges, CBGB’s New York City scene spearheaded by the Ramones, the British punk invasion of the almighty Sex Pistols, or the Hollywood punk rockers Black Veil Brides, the genre has enriched the … wait a minute … did we just say Black Veil Brides? Actually, the answer is yes, as the band recently stated that their next album is “going to be a punk rock record.”

Black Veil Brides have been given many labels — ’80s glam rock, metalcore, post-hardcore, as well as many words that have been criminalized by the FCC — but the band has certainly never branded as punk rock. According to BVB frontman Andy Biersack, however, the follow-up to the band’s 2011 album, ‘World’s on Fire’ will be infused with a punk rock sound.

“We’ve got three songs tracked,” Biersack tells NME. “We’ve set ourselves a deadline of the end of August to finish it. We’ve got 20 to 25 songs written and we’re narrowing it down now. John Feldmann [Goldfinger] is producing it. It’s going to be more of a punk rock record than anything we’ve done before. It’s Social Distortion meets Metallica.”

Biersack also spoke of the spike in popularity the band experienced since 2011. “Our career trajectory has been like a rocket. We came here for pennies last year when we didn’t even have a record out. We only played because Download and Andy Copping believed in us.”

Black Veil Brides are anticipating an October release for their upcoming third album.
