Best Metal Drummer [VIDEOS]
Who do you think is the most bad ass metal drummer out there? I have several favorites including Mike Portnoy, Dave Lombardo, Raymond Herrera, Joey Jorison and more. Add Chris Adler of Lamb of God to that list. This dude is a bad ass! Read on for my top 10 metal drummers plus a few videos of Chris Adler’s drum tracks only. I have officially moved Chris Adler into my top list of drummers. Not that he wasn’t a favorite of mine anyway, but watching these videos that I am posting just backs up my opinion that he should be recognized as one of the best drummers ever and arguably the best metal drummer out there. He is definitely in my top 5 list of metal drummers with of course my favorite being Mike Portnoy.
Here is my top 10 list of metal drummers:
1. Mike Portnoy (former Dream Theater)
2. Raymond Herrera (Fear Factory)
3. Joey Jordison (Slipknot)
4. Chris Adler (Lamb of God)
5. Dave Lombardo (Slayer)
6. Igor Cavalera (Sepultura)
7. William Rieflin (Ministry)
8. Dave Mackintosh (Dragonforce)
9. Paul Bostaph (Slayer and Testament)
10. Charlie Benante (Anthrax)
Notice who is not on my top 10 list? Vinnie Paul (Pantera, Damage Plan, Hell Yeah) He’s not on my top 10 list because, though he is a good drummer, he is not as bad ass as my top 10 list. Granted, “Vulgur Display of Power” displayed his best drumming to date, but he still cannot compete with anybody on my list – and that is hard for me to say considering Pantera is my favorite band of all time.
Lars Ulrich from Metallica gets an honorable mention and not on my list because he simply is just not that good of a drummer. Sure he was great on “In Justice For All” and probably revolutionized the way metal drummers play today, but since then, he kind of has gotten weak.
Also, the late great Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan gets a nod on my honorable mention list as well.
So who is your favorite metal drummer? Keep in mind that I’m asking for METAL drummer. If I was talking just rock drummers or all time rock drummers, that would be a completely different list for me to include Neil Peart, Alex Van Halen, etc. This is just metal drummers.
The inspiration behind this blog is because I saw these videos of Chris Adler. They are drum cams with the studio track playing to get an idea of the drumming technique that Chris uses as well as the difficulty of what he is playing as well.
