Progressive metal / rock heavyweights Baroness were involved in a serious accident earlier this morning (Aug. 15) in England, as the band’s tour bus reportedly plummeted for 30 feet over a viaduct. Several people were inside the bus when the accident took place, with two of them having to be rescued by firefighters after the passengers were trapped inside the bus. Two of the passengers apparently suffered serious injuries, with reports suggesting that band members suffered broken bones. Another seven people were treated for minor injuries.

Baroness were on their way to Southampton, England, this morning (Aug. 15) after performing a set in Bristol the night before. The reason for the crash has not yet been determined, but BBC has reported that the passengers were not able to be air-lifted from the crash site due to heavy rain and reduced visibility.

Baroness’ tour promoter has offered a press release regarding the accident:

It is with great regret that we have to inform you that Baroness were involved in a very serious road accident earlier today and will not be able to perform at Talking Heads tonight.

Our thoughts are with the band at this time and we wish them and their crew a speedy recovery.

An additional statement was just released addressing how the incident will affect the band’s tour schedule:

All band members and personnel on board are currently receiving medical treatment. Consequently, all remaining dates on the band’s European tour have been canceled. Additional details to come as more information is available.

Pictures of the wreck have been circulating online, which shows the front of the bus completely crunched inwards, busted-out windows and personal possessions scattered around the crash site.

Stay tuned for updates on the condition of Baroness band members and other passengers who were aboard the tour bus. Watch a TV report from on the incident below:
