Annual ‘Walk Now For Autism Speaks’ Coming to the Abilene Zoo April 26th

Autism Speaks

Autism is a disorder that changes the brain’s normal development of social and communication skills, and affects one in 68 U.S. children. It is considered by many to have reached epidemic proportions in the United States. That’s why autism awareness is important. Get your team of walkers together and spread the word about autism and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) at the annual Greater Abilene Walk Now For Autism Speaks Saturday, April 26th at the Abilene Zoo.

The event will include a family-manageable walk and community resource fair with educational sources, therapists, child-friendly activities and more. It’s a great way for families affected by autism to find valuable resources. Walkers are encouraged to wear blue as we wrap up Autism Awareness Month.

About Walk Now For Autism Speaks:

Walk Now for Autism Speaks, the nation’s largest grassroots autism walk program, is our signature fundraising and awareness event. Powered by volunteers and families with loved ones with ASD, this successful grassroots fundraising effort not only generates vital funds for autism research but also raises awareness about the increasing prevalence of autism and the need for increased research funding to combat this complex disorder.

Mission:

At Autism Speaks, our goal is to change the future for all who struggle with autis spectrum disorders. We are dedicated to funding global biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments, and cure for autism; to raising public awareness about autism and its effects on individuals, families and society; and to bringing hope to all who deal with the hardships of this disorder. We are committed to raising the funds necessary to support these goals.
