‘A Christmas Story’, ‘Elf’, ‘Christmas Vacation’, ‘Disney’s A Christmas Carol’, and More – 10 Must See Movies or TV Shows to Watch During the Christmas Holidays [VIDEOS]

One of my favorite things about the Christmas holidays, besides eating mass quantities of food with the family, is all of the movies and TV shows that come on during this time of year.  Some we just happen to catch, while others we make it a point to watch every single year.  Here are a few of my favorites that I think everyone must see.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

Out of all of the ‘Vacation’ movies, this one is by far my favorite.  The movie is about Clark Griswold trying to make it the perfect Christmas for his family, but it all turns in to a huge disaster as usual.  I have watched this movie every single year for the past 20 years.  In fact, one year, it appeared it wouldn’t come on TV and it almost ruined my Christmas.  Fortunately, I found it and it has not left my TIVO lineup since. If you have not seen this movie, your life will change after you do.

A Charlie Brown Christmas

This one has been one of my favorites since I was a little kid, and it continues to be played on my TV every year. Good ‘ol Charlie Brown is tired of the commercialism of the season, so he tries to find the true meaning of Christmas.  Yeah, so the show is from 1965, but still a classic must see during the Christmas holidays.

A Christmas Story

If you have never seen ‘A Christmas Story’, well, you’re just not American.  This classic show focuses on a little kid and his wish for a Red Ryder B.B. gun.  You’ll shoot your eye out kid.

Will Ferrel stars as an elf, who was raised in the North Pole, trying to find his true identity.  It’s hilarious, get’s you into the Christmas spirit, and a must see during the holiday season.

Bad Santa

First and foremost, this movie is not suited for the young ones so if you’re going to kick back in the family room to watch some Christmas movies, you might wait on this one until the kiddos go to bed.  Billy Bob Thornton stars as a conman who dressed up as Santa, and with help of ‘Santa’s Helper’, robs department stores.  The movie is packed full of bad language, but, oddly enough, actually has a pretty good message at the end.

How The Grinch Stole Chrismtas

From the mind of Dr. Suess, and the hilarious Jim Carrey, comes ‘How The Grinch Stole Christmas’.  This movie is actually the second grossing holiday movie ever and when you watch it, you’ll know why.  It stays very close to the book, the special effects are awesome, and Jim Carrey shows why he is one of the best actors on the planet.

Disney’s A Christmas Carol

Another great movie starring Jim Carrey, this version of ‘A Christmas Carol’ is by far my favorite of all time.  If you have not seen this movie yet, I highly recommend you grab the kiddos, pop some popcorn and experience the magic of Disney.

This movie is another adaption of ‘A Christmas Carol’ but with a modern twist to it.  Bill Murray stars as an programming executive of a big firm who is visited by three ghosts after becoming a cold- hearted and cruel businessman.

The Santa Clause

Tim Allen stars as an divorced executive who suddenly finds himself taking the place of the jolliest elf of them all – Santa Claus.  The first movie in a franchise is always the best, in my opinion, and no exception here as this one was by the far the best one.  It’s fun for the entire family.

Four Christmases

This movie came out in 2008 and quickly made it’s way on my Christmas movies to watch list.  It stars Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon who are a couple that has to visit all four of their divorced parents on Christmas Day.  It is rated PG13 and has some adult situations, but it is pretty funny.  And, as someone who has to deal with this same thing in the past, it’s a movie I can definitely relate to.

So, that’s a look at some of my favorite movies to watch during the Christmas holidays. What are you favorites? Let us know, and we’ll add them to the list.
