Zeal & Ardor’s sophomore album will officially see a 2018 release date. Stranger Fruit will be unleashed June 8, but you can check out the video for “Gravedigger’s Chant” right now.

The experimental project from Manuel Gagneux turned countless heads in the metal world with the release of Devil is Fine. Zeal & Ardor’s mix of black metal, blues and traditional slave chant is one of the most ambitious concoctions of the past decade, but it worked, and fans are now anxiously awaiting to taste Stranger Fruit.

"The gravedigger's chant is the song sung by the people who lay your body to rest,” Gagneux explains. “These people don't care where you were, but they know what you did and who loved you. All they know is what lies before them. So they sing this song, since you can no longer breathe a note."

He continues, "Our intent is both to familiarize as well as alienate. The video of 'Gravedigger's Chant' subverts roles: People find themselves in situations untypical for their ilk, tools become weapons, weapons turn into tools, and fingers meant for sensing make themselves felt."

“Gravedigger’s Chant” is beautifully shot, showcasing the hunt of a young man clothed in crimson. He’s a little more than just a kid, however, as you’ll see at the clip’s climax.

Stranger Fruit will contain 16 tracks produced by Zebo Adam and mixed by Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou. Check out the album art and full track listing below.
