Summer in Texas means you better have a pool (or lake) nearby or you just might not survive the brutal heat we're accustomed to.

Whether you take a dip to cool off or merely for exercise, you need to visit Balmorhea State Park (close to Big Bend) to check out the Largest Swimming Pool in Texas. It's also the largest freshwater pool in the United States and the world's largest spring-fed swimming pool.

According to RoadSideAmerica.com, the pool at Balmorhea State Park holds over 3.5 million gallons of water and spans close to 2 full acres in size. Being that it is spring-fed, the temperature is consistently within 72-76 degrees year-round.

Here's an aerial photo to show just how big the pool is. Keep reading for more photos.

The deep end of the pool was left "natural" so you can expect to swim with a variety of underwater wildlife, including turtles and some endangered fish species. The deep end is also 25 feet which is perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving - which you can do at the pool.

So, basically, it's a tropical paradise smack dab in the middle of the Texas desert.

Now, just remember, if you take a trip to this amazing pool, you'll need to swim at your own risk as there's no lifeguard on duty.
