Crystal Dynamics' Noah Hughes said there would be no Wii U version of Tomb Raider because the developer wanted to deliver the same experience for all platforms.

Tomb Raider's creative director Noah Huges spoke with True Gaming (video below), about the new reboot, and why the game wouldn't be making its way to the Wii U. According to Hughes, the Wii U version would have had to be specifically tailored to the new controller and interface, and wouldn't have made for an easy port. Crystal apparently wanted the experience to be as identical as possible across all platforms, and the Wii U version would be too different.

"I'm always a fan of the Nintendo systems, in particular they really push interface design, and from a game design perspective it's fun to play with new interfaces," Hughes said. "Having said that it's something that I think we would want to tailor the experience to if we were going to do it."

"I think something like the Wii U often asks you to do something unique based on a unique interface," Hughes elaborated. "That's something as a gamer I love but it's something you don't want to do half-heartedly as a developer."

It's a shame Wii U owners won't be able to enjoy what looks like a great reinvention of a classic franchise. Perhaps one day Crystal will revisit the idea, but for now it looks like die-hard Lara Croft fans will need a PC, Xbox 360, or PlayStation 3 to enjoy her adventures.
