Stone Roses Set World Record for Fastest Selling U.K. Concerts

The Stone Roses' reunion concerts over the summer in their hometown of Manchester, England, have set a Guinness World Record for the fastest selling rock concerts in U.K. history. Tickets for the three gigs in Manchester's Heaton Park at the end of June and beginning of July certainly sold at a swift pace, and all 220,000 were gone in a mere 68 minutes.

British pop star Robbie Williams holds the Guinness World Record for most tickets sold in one day; he moved 1.6 million tickets for a 2005 world tour in 24 hours. His former bandmates Take That, meanwhile, set the record for the fastest selling tickets for a U.K. tour, selling out 1.3 million seats for the 2010 reunion tour in a 24-hour period.

The Roses' trio of Manchester shows was part of a reunion tour that kicked off May 23 in Warrington, England, and included gigs in Europe and Asia. The trek winds down Aug. 22 in Belfast, Ireland, and while no additional dates have been scheduled, there are rumors the band will appear at Australia's Future Music Festival in February and perhaps launch a U.S. tour.

The Stone Roses, who released two albums during their original run before disbanding in 1996, also are reportedly working on a comeback disc that's due out sometime in 2013.
