Slipknot + Evanescence Knotfest Meets Forcefest Sets Canceled Over Broken Barricade
The Knotfest portion of the Mexico City's Knotfest Meets Forcefest music weekend didn't go according to plan, as the final two acts of the night were forced to forego their performances after a broken barricade caused safety concerns.
Slipknot, who were one of the two acts affected, issued a statement via the festival website that read as follows: "Because of a broken barricade and failed attempts to fix it, Slipknot were forced to cancel our performance last night. Safety – especially the safety of our fans and fellow bands – is priority number one. We apologize profusely and hope you all understand. If anything were to happen to ANY of you, we wouldn’t forgive ourselves. Also, if we could have fixed the barricade correctly, we would have gone onstage. Again, we hope you understand and we will try to make it up to you as soon as we can."
Evanescence, who also missed out on their performance, uploaded a video post explaining the cancellation. They added, "We are heartbroken we didn’t get to play for you tonight, México City. Your safety, your life is more important than any show! We love you and we will be back soon, that’s a promise." Watch their video message below.
The Knotfest Meets Forcefest event is in its inaugural year at Mexico City's Parque Deportivo Oceanía venue. While the barricade issue forced the cancellation of the remainder of night one, at press time the second night headlined by Rob Zombie was still on schedule to happen.
Slipknot and Evanescence have released statements further explaining the cancellation and revealing that some of Evanescence's gear was damaged following the announcement.
