In small-town Texas, folks will rally to save a historic oak tree, boycott a new roundabout, and now- apparently- draw the line at a chicken sandwich. As word spreads that a beloved fast food giant might be eyeing their quiet corner of the Hill Country, locals are clucking up a storm over what’s really at stake: fried chicken or small-town charm. Because in Texas, progress is welcome- just not if it messes with the vibe!

This debate is playing out in Boerne, a charming small town nestled just northwest of San Antonio in the Texas Hill Country. Known for its historic downtown and friendly vibe, Boerne recently found itself in the middle of a chicken-sized controversy over whether to welcome a Chick-fil-A or keep things local and laid-back.

The conversation kicked off with a simple social media poll asking locals if they wanted a Chick-fil-A in town- and, as usual, the comment section was the real star when things quickly got spicy. That's right, the Chick-Fil-A isn't even happening yet and some were not okay with that!

Boerne residents in the Facebook comments had more to say about a potential Chick-fil-A.

While over three-quarters of folks said yes, the comment section told a different story, with some residents worried that adding a popular chain could turn their cozy corner of Texas into just another cookie-cutter suburb. Others, meanwhile, were happily dreaming of chicken nuggets and waffle fries, proving that even in small-town Texas, you can’t please everyone.

One resident pointed out:

It is always funny to me how everyone is moving to Boerne for its unique, small-town charm, but then want everything they have everywhere else.

Others were happily dreaming of chicken nuggets and waffle fries!

Chick-fil-A isn't even considering Boerne for a new location.

It's really telling that the residents of Boerne are actually very active and passionate about their town. For their part, Chick-Fil-A told MySA that there isn't even a plan to open a Boerne location yet!

At the end of the day, whether you’re team “save the small-town charm” or team “eat more chickin,” this debate shows just how much small-town Texans care about their communities. Maybe there’s room for both, and if not, well, there’s always a Chick-fil-A just a short drive away.

How To Make Your Own Chick-Fil-A Sauce
