When we asked, “What’s a kid food you secretly love?” the answers were as surprising as they were nostalgic. Sure, we expected the classics: sugary breakfast cereals, maybe the occasional Happy Meal for old times’ sake. But what we didn’t expect were some answers that could only be described—without spoiling the surprise—as “mashed” or “strained.”

It’s clear that for some people, palates simply never grow up. I once had a neighbor who flat-out refused to eat salsa unless it was fully blended and puréed, no vegetable chunks allowed. For him, texture was the enemy—smooth was safe.

I found myself wishing we could ask follow-up questions. Do those who love the blander, softer “kid foods” also enjoy bold and spicy flavors on occasion? Or do they happily live in the mild lane, sticking with comfort foods that feel like home?

People wanted the exact same flavors they remembered—a true “taste of being a kid.” And honestly, there’s no shame in that. Life’s too short for food guilt. Eat what you love, even if it came from the kids’ menu.
