This story has a bit more to it than most. This wasn't a glimpse, or a howl, it was a full-on attack.

The Attack

In July of 1969 a couple claimed that a creature jumped from a tree onto their car. The attack left an 18-inch scratch on their car (and probably ended date night for the two). Thje monster was said to be half-man, half-goat and over seven feet tall.  But wait, this was just the first attack with a group of picnickers claiming that the monster threw a tire at them from a nearby cliff.

The Monster

Would you like more scary details about this monster. It was said to have orange glowing eyes and blood-curdling screams. One person even claimed that he got a picture of the monster, but the authenticity of the it has been disputed.

The Hunt

The Lake Worth Monster became such a thing that monster hunters flocked to the area armed with guns and flashlights but nothing was found. The Fort Worth Police had numerous reports, but it appeared all the activity was confined to that Summer of 1969.

The Discoveries

There are a number of explanations for the monster attacks. One is that it was the work of teenagers, possibly inspired by a movie that had just come out called, "Night Of The Blood Beast". One newspaper even received an anonymous confession saying the author was one of three culprits. Some other Fort Worth residents believe the creature was actually an escaped circus gorilla that had not been reported.

The Slant

I personally find this story fascinating, because the creature in question is described a bit different than the usual Bigfoot type sightings. In fairness, "seven feet tall and covered with fur" isn't that different from Bigfoot, but just the description as a "Goat-Man" adds a new dimension to the legend.
