Why The Special Santa Car Wash Matters To Our Community
On Saturday, September 20th from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the Dyess We Care Team will once again roll up their sleeves for the annual Operation Special Santa Car Wash. The fundraiser will be held at Statesman’s Coffee Company in the Hobby Lobby parking lot. Every dollar raised goes toward bringing Christmas joy to veterans and adults with special needs who might otherwise be forgotten during the holidays.

Helping Those Who Gave Everything
This isn’t just any car wash. It’s the only fundraiser in Abilene where donations are used to buy Christmas gifts for bedridden, homebound, or mentally incapacitated adults. Many of these veterans and neighbors live alone and have no one to share the season with. That’s where Operation Special Santa steps in, making sure they feel remembered and valued.
I’ve had the privilege of broadcasting live from these events for years, and it never fails to inspire me. Seeing young Dyess AFB airmen, many of them fresh out of training and living in the barracks, volunteering to give back to the community is a reminder of what true service looks like.
Donations That Go Three Times Further
What makes this year’s event even more special is the support from generous Abilene businesses. Cordell’s and Willow Creek Gardens are matching every single donation. That means if you give $20, they’ll add another $20, and the Dyess We Care Team’s foundation triples the impact. A $100 donation quickly becomes $300 toward making Christmas brighter.
Shine Your Ride and Spread Holiday Cheer
So, bring your vehicle, grab a cup of coffee, and make a difference. Every car washed helps buy gifts for veterans and disabled adults who deserve to feel the warmth of the season.
