The Abilene Zoo is thrilled to announce the return of its 6th Annual Christmas Celebration powered by Reliant, running nightly from December 13 to 23, 4 to 9 p.m. This festive event promises a magical experience filled with nearly one million lights, stunning holiday decor, my all-time favorite is the snowing at the entry, and lots of other activities perfect for kids of all ages.

A Holiday Tradition Hopes to Help Christmas Zoo Memories

Mark Parsons the Reliant Energy vice president says "We are very proud to partner with the Abilene Zoo to power all the lights that light up this Christmas Celebration. We hope that this beloved event will help bring families out to the zoo to make memories that will last a lifetime." So, I say pick a day when you and the family can make it an evening out at the Abilene Zoo. Arriving around 4 PM as it starts to get dark earlier, the Christmas Celebration will light up and last until 9-PM nightly.

Festive Activities for the Whole Family

The Christmas Celebration transforms the zoo into a winter wonderland, offering themed holiday zones, immersive light displays, and unforgettable experiences. Here’s what you can look forward to:

Meet Santa and His Reindeer: Snap photos, feed the reindeer, and immerse yourself in the holiday spirit.
Iceless Skating Rink: Glide across a festive rink without the cold.
Mrs. Claus’ Texas Bakery, where you can decorate cookies and enjoy seasonal treats like s’mores and hot chocolate.
Beltway Churches Live Walk to Bethlehem: Journey through a live reenactment of the nativity scene.
Santa’s Toy Workshop: Expanded this year to allow even more children to create their own toys.
Seasonal Beverages: Sip on holiday-crafted adult beverages while taking in the atmosphere.

This event is The Abilene Zoo’s largest annual fundraiser of the year, with proceeds supporting animal care and new guest experiences. Abilene Zoo Director Jesse Pottebaum tells me that, “Each visitor helps us give the best possible care to our animals, bring unforgettable events to the community, and make lifelong mamories.”
