West Texas, I’ll say it again: we are blessed to have something as special as the Abilene Community Band. Under the direction of the legendary Mr. Joe Stephens, this all-volunteer group plays their hearts out all year long, with spring concerts, summer patriotic shows, fundraisers, and community performances that help lift up nonprofits around the Big Country.

Now they’re closing out 2025 with their annual Christmas concert at the historic Paramount Theatre, happening Tuesday, December 9th, 2025, at 7:30 PM. Admission is absolutely free, but I strongly encourage everyone to bring a little something for the donation bucket. Every dollar goes to the Joe Stephens Community Band Endowment Fund, ensuring the music continues for decades to come.

Expect the Unexpected, Mr. Stephens Never Plays It Safe

If you’ve ever been to one of their Christmas concerts, you already know… You never know what Mr. Stephens has up his sleeve.
Some years, he takes us back to the ’40s and ’50s with big band holiday classics. Other years, it’s ’70s rock-and-roll Christmas. He’s even surprised the crowd with full-blown disco versions of holiday favorites.

That’s what makes this night so magical: you don’t just hear Christmas music, you experience it.

And yes, Donna and I will be there, because this concert has become part of our Christmas tradition. It’s warm, it’s joyful, and it reminds you what community really means.

Come Celebrate the Season With the Band That Gives Back

The Abilene Community Band has spent the entire year performing, fundraising, and supporting organizations across our region. Now it’s our turn to show up for them.

Grab the family, get downtown early, take in the lights, and enjoy a night of music you won’t forget.

Tuesday, December 9th • 7:30 PM • Paramount Theatre
Free Admission • Donations Encouraged

Let’s fill the Paramount and support the band that supports West Texas.
