At least part of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman movie takes place during World War I, which would indicate that at least some of her solo adventure serves as a prequel. But before we get to that film, Gadot will make her debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, where — according to new details — she’ll find herself pulled out of retirement to fight once again. In addition to the latest intel on Diana Prince, we also have some new images from the epic superhero film, including one that appears to tease DC supervillain Darkseid.

The new images debuted over at Empire, which has a hefty feature on the upcoming film. You can check out the images in the viewer above, featuring new looks at Henry Cavill’s Superman, Ben Affleck’s Batman, Doomsday and more. One image in particular stands out, showing the Dark Knight looking out over a desert landscape and a curious symbol in the sand. That symbol belongs to Darkseid, the tyrannical alien supervillain and a pretty big enemy of the Justice League.

As we’ve seen in the trailers, there is a dream sequence in which Batman is set upon by Darkseid’s minions, the parademon troops, and finds himself unmasked by Superman. The dream is apparently a prophetic one for Batman, and foretells the dangers to come.

Moving on…Empire also has some new intel on Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman (via CBM) and how she gets involved with Batman v Superman. When we meet Diana Prince, she’s actually over 5,000 years old, and is pulled out of retirement by a drastic incident. Gadot says:

Because she’s seen it all, she has seen what humans can do, so it was very hard for her to come back and fight.

Executive producer Deborah Snyder describes the importance of Wonder Woman and the specific power / resonance she has in the DCU:

Her sexuality is part of her power, but she is also a feminist icon. Gender has been a hot topic, so it is very timely to bring her back. The way we have approached it, especially in the standalone movie, that is definitely there. Looking back and doing an origin story – and it is a period piece – see the role of women through history. There is a great source of humour in that now. It is so unbelievable you can’t even fathom it. You are still making a statement, but having some fun with it.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25. Wonder Woman arrives on June 23, 2017.
