You Won’t Believe How Many American Kids And Military Families Rely On Food Stamps

This, my friends, is disgusting. In America, the land of plenty, far too many kids have to rely on food stamps just to get enough to eat. It's great that we live in a country that takes care of them, but it's sad that there is not enough opportunity out there for their parents to not need them.

Are you ready for this number?  According to CBS News Moneywatch, one in five kids rely on food assistance.  Do you think that's bad?  Well get ready for another nugget. According to NBC News one in four military families also require food assistance. This is, pardon the pun, food for thought.  We've all complained about welfare abuse and some have even insisted on drug testing for these programs (which doesn't work).   The truth is, it's kids, military and the working poor that benefit most from these programs.

So, moving on from the sympathy aspects of this, something is wrong out there. It used to be a baker or a full-time clerk could make a living. Now those professions don't even take someone near the poverty level.  I'm not an economist and I don't have the answers, I'm just hoping to provide a little understanding here.  It's hard out there and a lot of the people out there have no choice but to be on some type of assistance.

Kids don't choose their parents, our military families deserve help and the working poor are just looking for a hand up and not a hand out.  Don't let the cheats out there sour you on a system that is relied on by so many.
